Karen attends District 29 community meeting

Residents gathered Monday at the Una Church of Christ to talk about an upcoming zoning change, and I was there to listen to their concerns.

Councillady Wilhoite led a discussion involving residents and the property's owner about how the property will be used. I joined other Council candidates as part of the audience.

Meetings like this give me a chance to hear first-hand the kinds of issues that are important to people who live and work in the 29st District. Nothing is more important to me.

Read Across America Day "Dr. Suess Day" in Nashville March 2, 2011 a tremendous Success!

This years Dr. Suess Day activities began at the Parthenon in Centennial Park with Metro School's Students being bussed in by MNEA to kick off the day. Our district school board member Cheryl Mayes also participated. I enjoyed participating by reading at one of my district's schools "Lakeview Elementary" which is where my children actually started. Leaders throughout the city participated.

Dr. "Sam I Am" Register and Board Vice Chair Mark North celebrated Read Across America Day by reading the Dr. Seuss classic "Green Eggs & Ham" to students from Jones Paideia and Buena Vista Elementary Schools. Standing in front of the beautiful Athena statue inside the Parthenon, the two gave quite a performance. The students then turned the tables and wowed the adults by singing the "Green Eggs & Ham" song. Each child in the crowd received a Dr. Seuss book and hat! Dr. Register and Mr. North were joined in the celebration by Mayor Karl Dean; Councilwoman Erica Gilmore; Board members Kay Simmons, Cheryl Mayes, and Jo Ann Brannon; Erick Huth and Stephen Henry from the MNEA; and Director of the Parthenon Wesley Paine. The event was sponsored by the MNEA.
