YLC Alumna Karen Johnson Elected President Pro Tem by Metro Council Members

Congratulations to District 29 Metro Council Member Karen Y. Johnson (Class 39), who was elected this week President Pro Tem by Metro Council members for 2015-16. Members elect a President Pro Tem to serve in the absence of the Vice Mayor, who is the President of the Metro Council and serves as its presiding officer. Karen is a human resources professional who earned a Master's degree in Business Administration from Trevecca Nazarene University. She is a graduate of Leadership Nashville and selected nationally as a fellow with the National League of Cities National Black Caucus of Local Elected Officials.
“It’s a great honor to be chosen by my colleagues to serve as President Pro Tem. In the absence of the Vice Mayor, I look forward to serving and representing the Members of Council in this leadership capacity. Together we will continue the exciting momentum present in our city while allowing new ideas that will help create a more responsive city government,” said Johnson.
She is the third African American woman to fill this seat.
